These structural elements bear loads predominantly in compression, transferring them from architectural components to foundations. Made from cold-formed steel, these columns offer advantages such as precision, faster construction, and increased strength. Common configurations include load-bearing back-to-back headers, single headers with strong backs, and non-load-bearing single track headers, vertical cold formed u-channels designed to connect floor cassettes.

There are two main types of mounting options for these balconies3. The Face Mounted System uses mounting clips that bolt to the face of the structure. The Cantilevered System uses the floor system to extend beyond the wall panels creating an outdoor space. The choice between these systems depends on the specific requirements of the building project.

The floor cassettes are designed by our in house team of engineers to be modeled to exact lengths, which allows for precision in construction and reduces waste. Its dimensional stability is a significant advantage as it does not expand or contract with changes in moisture content, making it a reliable choice for various climates. The high tensile strength of CFS contributes to the overall strength and durability of the building. The floor system’s penalization, where it is built in sections or “cassettes” at an off-site CFS manufacturer’s factory, is a key feature. These cassettes can be set onto the wall system at the job site, significantly reducing construction time. The use of CFS can also lead to cost savings due to its high strength-to-weight ratio, potentially reducing the need for heavy foundation work. Additionally, our floor systems can be sheathed with any flooring material including concrete board eliminating the need for poured concrete, still able to achieve a 2 Hour ULC rating with and STC greater than 55.
